Here is a little about me and what I stand for.Posted by Jessica Revell for Wakulla County Tax Collector on Sunday, July 5, 2020
Raised and Vested in Wakulla County, I have decided to step out of the private sector and into the political arena for the open seat of Wakulla County Tax Collector. I grew up playing softball in Wakulla County schools, at the recreation park, and on travel teams. During Middle School, I worked for my mother, Lorra Phillips, at Shepard Accounting & Tax Service, while I also worked for a local Title Company in High School. I have learned that customer service in the private industry should be top notch. After receiving scholarships for softball and academics, I moved to Jacksonville to begin my college career. After an arm injury ended my college sports career, I moved back to Wakulla County and earned my BS degrees in Accounting and Finance at Florida State University. While attending college, I continued to help my mother manage her accounting firm, as well as waitressed at Posey’s Steam Room. I was determined to attend college living on my own while not taking out any loans or incurring credit card debt, through my dedication and strong work ethic, I was able to accomplish that goal.
After college I married Jason Revell, a local small business owner like myself. Together we are raising three sons and we have enjoyed years of coaching their sports teams at the Rec Park. Last year I decided to spread my love for horses with the community. I became a Leader of the Wakulla 4H Bits & Bridles Club. I also give horseback lessons at my house for several children. I like to teach Horsemanship and not just riding, I believe you need to learn about all aspects of a horse before the rider and horse can become a team. I think serving as Wakulla County’s next Tax Collector will incorporate a similar approach. I believe it’s imperative that I ensure that each citizen has a full understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Tax Collectors’ Office, so that the public and the public servants in the Tax Collector’s Office develop a partnership that serves the community well.
In 2013 I became a Licensed CPA in the State of FL and soon after, part owner of Shepard Accounting & Tax Service. The firm's Moto will always stick with me, “Friendly, Professional, and Here to Stay.” I also enjoy sharing my knowledge as a C.P.A. by giving back to the community volunteering on many organizations. C.P.A.’s have a different way of analyzing numbers and can bring a different perspective to the table. I am the Treasurer of the Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce, Treasure of the Wakulla County Economic Development Council, Chairwoman of the Industrial Development Authority, and the Chairwoman of the Wakulla County Sales Tax Committee.
